Why Residents of Medford, Medford Lakes, Marlton, Lumberton, Tabernacle, Vincentown, and Shamong Are Joining — and Staying

Let’s be honest. Most people have driven past a Rotary sign at the edge of town and thought, “That’s some kind of club, right? For old guys?”

Fair enough. Rotary has been around since 1905, which gives it a certain distinguished — okay, ancient — reputation. But here’s what those roadside signs don’t tell you: Rotary is one of the most vibrant, diverse, and genuinely fun civic organizations you’ll find anywhere. And if you live in or around Medford, New Jersey, there’s a chapter right in your backyard that is changing lives, building friendships, and doing real good in the world — one Wednesday morning at a time.

So What Exactly Is Rotary?

Rotary International is a global network of more than 1.2 million neighbors, friends, and community leaders who come together for one simple purpose: to make the world a better place. There are Rotary clubs in almost 200 countries. When you join your local club — say, Medford Sunrise Rotary — you’re not just joining a local group. You’re plugging into one of the most powerful networks of goodwill on the planet.

Think of it as LinkedIn meets your favorite nonprofit, with better coffee and a whole lot more laughs.

Meet Medford Sunrise Rotary

Our club draws members from across Burlington County and the surrounding area — Medford, Medford Lakes, Marlton, Lumberton, Tabernacle, Vincentown, Shamong, and beyond. We’re business owners, teachers, healthcare professionals, retirees, young professionals, and everyone in between. The one thing we have in common? We like people, we like our community, and we believe that showing up together makes a real difference.

We meet weekly — early morning, hence the “Sunrise” — for a breakfast meeting that combines a guest speaker, a bit of club business, and the kind of conversation you just can’t have scrolling through your phone. It’s an hour that will make your whole week better. We promise.

What Does Medford Sunrise Rotary Actually Do?

Great question. Here’s where the rubber meets the road.

Locally

Our roots are right here in Burlington County. Over the years, Medford Sunrise Rotary has supported local scholarships, community projects, food drives, and youth programs. We run the annual Burlington County Field of Honor and we support many veterans causes. When a neighbor needs a hand, we show up. When a local cause needs funding, we get to work. When the community needs a voice, we’re at the table.

Globally

This is the part that still gives us chills.

When the devastating wildfires tore through the Los Angeles area in early 2025, Medford Sunrise Rotary didn’t watch helplessly from South Jersey. We joined hands with Rotary clubs across the country and around the world — clubs that pooled resources, mobilized quickly, and directed relief to where it was needed most. What one club could not do alone, hundreds of clubs did together.

That moment brought something into sharp focus for all of us: the power of belonging to something bigger than yourself. A small club in Medford, New Jersey, linked arms with clubs in California, Texas, Canada, and beyond — and together, we made a real, measurable difference in people’s lives during one of the worst natural disasters in California history.

That’s Rotary. That’s why it matters.

“Is Rotary Right for Me?”

We get that question a lot. Here’s a simple way to think about it:

You might love Medford Sunrise Rotary if…

  • You’ve recently moved to Medford, Medford Lakes, Marlton, or anywhere nearby and want to build genuine friendships in the community
  • You run a business and want to meet other local professionals who are more interested in giving than getting
  • You’re retired and want to stay engaged, useful, and connected
  • You’re earlier in your career and want a mentor network that actually shows up
  • You care about the world beyond your zip code but want to start by doing good right here at home
  • You just want to be part of something that feels meaningful — and fun

Rotary is not…

  • A stuffy, old-fashioned organization where you sit in rows and listen to dry reports
  • A club with a political agenda
  • A networking group where people hand out business cards and disappear
  • Boring. (We feel strongly about this one.)

The Friend Factor

We’d be doing you a disservice if we didn’t mention this: some of our members’ greatest friendships were forged right here at a Wednesday morning breakfast table.

There’s something that happens when a group of people consistently shows up — not to sell each other something, not to compete, but to simply do good together. Trust builds fast in that kind of environment. Real friendships follow. Ask any long-time Rotarian, and they’ll tell you: the service matters deeply, but the people they’ve met along the way? That’s what they cherish most.

Come See for Yourself — No Obligation

Here’s our simple invitation: be our guest.

Come to one of our weekly breakfast meetings. Sit down with us. Meet the crew. Hear a speaker. See what a Rotary meeting actually looks and feels like in 2026. You’re not joining anything. You’re not obligated to anything. You’re just having breakfast with a group of people who love their community — and who just might become some of your favorite people.

One More Thing

There’s a Rotary motto: Service Above Self. It’s only three words, but they carry a lot of weight. At Medford Sunrise Rotary, we’ve seen those words in action — in the LA wildfire relief, in the scholarship checks handed to Burlington County students, in the food pantries stocked, the projects completed, the hands shaken and the lives touched.

The world can always use more of that. So can our corner of New Jersey.
