When you think about changing the world, it’s easy to feel a bit overwhelmed. We look at the news, see massive challenges across the globe or right in our neighboring towns, and think, “I’m just one person. What difference can I really make?”
At Medford Sunrise Rotary, we answer that question every single week.
Our philosophy is simple: Think Globally, Act Locally. When you join forces with a dedicated group of neighbors, your individual desire to do good is instantly multiplied. What starts as a conversation over morning coffee quickly turns into life-changing action—both right here in South Jersey and across the globe.
Deep Roots in Our Community
If you live or work in Medford, Lumberton, Medford Lakes, Shamong, Tabernacle, or Vincentown, you have likely seen our members in action, even if you didn’t realize it at the time.
Locally, we are a hands-on club that focuses on honoring our heroes, feeding the hungry, and supporting the next generation. As a member or supporter, you are directly fueling:
- The Field of Honor: Transforming our local landscape into a breathtaking sea of flags to honor those who have served, while raising tens of thousands of dollars for worthy veterans’ charities.
- Comfort in Hard Times: Cooking and serving warm dinners for families staying at the Ronald McDonald House during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.
- Community Lifelines: Organizing local food drives, supporting Boy and Girl Scout troops, and funding vital youth and community service activities that keep our towns strong. This coming December, for example, we’ll bring together community volunteers to pack 20,000 meals in a single day to donate to local food banks. (Wanna join us?!)
A Global Rapid-Response Team
But our impact doesn’t stop at the town border. Because Medford Sunrise is part of Rotary International—a global network of 1.2 million changemakers—we have a unique ability to pivot from local community service to global crisis relief at a moment’s notice.
When a devastating EF5 tornado wiped out hundreds of homes in Joplin, Missouri, our members didn’t just send thoughts and prayers. Within days, Medford Sunrise Rotary filled an entire truck with essential household supplies and delivered it directly to the disaster zone.
When earthquakes strike, we step up. When a sister Rotary club asked for help funding a clean drinking water system for an entire village in Guatemala, our members jumped into action and now that entire village drinks safe, clean water every day. And closer to home, when we saw veterans returning from Afghanistan struggling with PTSD, we pooled our resources to help fund life-changing service dogs.
That is the power of Rotary. We are small enough to know your name, but big enough to change a village on the other side of the world—and help a Scout down the road.
